Illegal activity don't hurt nobody?
By now you've heard about Senator Glenn Howard and his plea with IMPD officers to overlook illegal activity within his district at so called "pea-shake houses." He is quoted in the police report as stating "They don't hurt nobody...I know they are illegal, but they don't hurt anybody." Well, in fact Senator, they hurt us all.
The state is charged with the duty to protect the welfare of its citizens. To ensure public harmony a number of laws have been enacted by our sovereign state government. Essentially, it's all about preserving social order and protecting us from from social chaos. Allowing such criminal activity erodes social order and well being.
Personally, I find it most disturbing a Senator would ask IMPD to over look any crime within their district.
IndyStar columnist Matt Tulley wrote: "...it is clear many politicians, such as Howard and [Monroe] Gray, call the gambling houses cultural fixtures in the black community and criticize any enforcement of them." So, according to certain politicians, illegal activity is a part of black culture and needs to be protected from enforcement?
Plain & Simple: If illegal gambling is overlooked we must equally overlook all speeding, parking and J-walking violations; petty crimes like vandalism, pickpocketing and general pandemonium like rioting, and even the occasional murder...this sounds alot like the old west...Now that is romantic!
