American Government: Twisted or Braided

The fabric of your government, and our country, is woven with braided yarn.

To make a braid, you must have 3 separate strands which are interlaced and fundamentally very strong.    Our forefathers new this to be true, which is the reason they set up a form of government with 3 branches.  A braided rope will last almost forever.  There is no such thing as a twisted rope...two strands make twine which is weak and easy to break.
The strength of three strands braided together, is much greater than the strength of two strands twisted together.  A braid will not fall apart, but two strands twisted together have a natural tendency to unravel.
The fabric of our Nation has started  to unravel because we have only two political parties that are twisted together.  I contend that a third party is essential to create a new thread to repair the damage to the precious fabric of America.
Should we dangle by an unraveling two party thread or should we create a strong, forward looking braid?
